History
Shame
Alora
grew up in a small town in
The
added stress of finding out his girls were mutants seemed to push him deeper
into depression and he became a true alcoholic. While strict before he would
begin to verbally and physically abuse both girls in drunken rages. At age 16,
both girls would run away and stay with a relative of their mother.
While
their father’s alcohol abuse would be common knowledge their abuse wouldn’t be
known for years.
While
her sister coped by pretending to be an airhead party girl Alora withdrew into
herself becoming shy and introverted. She clung closely to her sister who
seemed more then happy to take all the attention. This is when she first met
Joseph Salinas before he was expelled for one of his frequent pranks.
Doubts
Alora
would meet him again in college when both sisters attended NYU in
Under
Xavier’s tutelage she learned how to control her Pyrokinetic and telekinetic
powers. While trying to sooth her emotional and mental scars Xavier found
self-imposed blocks severely limiting her powers. As he tested these bocks he
found suppressed memories along with rage bottled up deep in her sub-conscious.
Unwilling or unable to deal with her father’s abuse at the moment he restored
the blocks as he tried to get to her to discover these feeling on her own terms
in the long months before she left him.
As
a founding member of Fed-X she was the most unsure both about the team and her
powers but her highly withdrawn nature made voicing these concerns problematic
even to her friends or sister. The odd attraction she felt for Joseph Salinas
now codenamed Xerox only complicated the matter. She would push him away for
weeks until the capture of the male members of the team by Vamp forced her and
her sister to take an active lead in rescuing them. Still confused she began a
long running on-again off-again romantic relationship with Xerox.
Inferno
Not soon after this she was kidnapped by
Cataclysm to be a member of his Elementals. Psychologically tortured and
altered by an unknown process her long buried rage surfaced in the form of Inferno.
Her mental blocks gone she seemed to have nearly unlimited power that she used
with great relish to humble her former teammates. Cataclysm failed to see the
true cause of her transformation was her anger and shame and was defeated by
her after Inferno laid waste to his Elementals. After her sister invaded her
mind and found her dormant personality she fought her rage by unblocking her
memories and reclaimed herself. The stress put her into a coma that lasted
several weeks though.
When
she awoke she found half the team missing and Xerox seemingly working for
Magneto. Taking her own leave of absence she went back to Xavier to put her
past back in order and to deal with the repressed feelings she been hiding for
so long. With his help she confronted Inferno again to reveal she was just a
young girl and found out she had deliberately put blocks on her power to avoid
killing her father or harming others with her ‘curse’ as her father had called
it. She was far from cured but she took big first steps when Trisha
telepathically contacted her to come to Genosha after the Sentinel attack.
Together with her sister and Brock they ‘borrowed’ a hover jet and rescued
Xerox and his new friend Wisp from the island they been shipwrecked on.
After
his confession of love she kissed him and accidentally linked their minds so
both found the depth of pain and sadness each had been dealing with. Finding he
was such a kindred soul she told him about her full past and her fears about
getting into an abusive relationship with another man. Surprising her he
dropped all mental guards and let her see his entire mind. Touched by how
vulnerable he made himself she admitted her own feelings and both decided to be
together at last.
Division
Just
because they were together didn’t make their lives or the relationship any
easier then before though. The couple had several rough patches during the
Invasion War including the time she found out Xerox had tried to become
romantically linked to Rogue of the X-men. These patches were further aggravated
by the new regulations passed down by Rem Quesada
including a ban on relations within the team. She was split from her sister who
was now on Team Blue and partnered with Dash and Blast for ‘special training’.
Both women clashed frequently with her as Dash tried to take advantage of
Cinder’s old habits. Instead of hating each other though Dash and Blast found
new respect for the formerly mousy red head. Thanks to this they were the last
training group to be captured by Vengeance Unlimited. Using her newly
discovered telepathy she tricked them into fighting each other with Xerox’s
help.
After
being manipulated by Cataclysm for days while trying to stop his plan to spark
a global war he kidnapped her and teleported her away to be the energy source to
ripen the spore pods he placed in space to kill most of Humanity. Exposing her
to the process that had originally turned her into Inferno Cinder feigned a
relapse and briefly battled her teammates before stepping into her projection
chamber and using it to burn up spore pods in orbit. She then destroyed the
chamber and seemingly blasted Cataclysm into ash. Returning home she along with
the others found their home was set to explode and only the sacrifice of their
friend, Jump saved their lives. Cataclysm was again presumed killed in the
explosion but Alora highly doubted it.
Relocation
With
their base gone and the team disbanded, Alora decided to spend time away from
her sister to find herself as a person by moving back with Xerox to
Encouraged
by her new understanding of her father and her powers, she and Joseph publicly
came out as mutants as the church they were at was attacked by Anti-mutant
protestors. Her temper nearly flash fried half the group before she got it
under control and snuffed out the fires they started instead. Most of her new
friends at NYU began to distance themselves from her for being a mutant,
hurting her deeply. Again her connection to Sabrina and her brother helped her
recover.
When
John Talbot asked them to reform Fed-X, Alora had doubts as she was looking
towards the future and worried about having a family with Joseph when they both
risked their lives. It was her sister who reminded her they were already a
family and danger could come from just living her life. With that in mind she
later voted to accept Sabrina as a member of the New Fed-X over her brother’s
objections. This would lead to a period of stress between both the couple and
the sisters over her pending membership. This ended when Cinder saved their
lives from a setup meant to frame them all for the assassination of Saudi
royalty.
After
M-day, with her lover stricken by the mental overload of their psychic link, a
slightly colder version of Cinder appeared in the aftermath of the anti-mutant
backlash against the 99% of mutant kind who were now de-powered. While
defending Xerox she seemed to enjoy hurting the people trying to harm him as
she freely used all her powers on them. This became deadly when they appeared
to kill him and she began to psychokinetically rip the landscape around her
apart in a furious rage. Only the discovery of his illusionary death seemed to
shock her back to her senses.
New Paths
While
her friends worked on setting up a sister branch for their now de-powered
members she returned to Xavier’s to find the cause of her nearly murderous
outbreak of power. What she found instead was the Professor was missing, Jean
had died, and Emma Frost and Scott Summers were now headmasters. Trusting Emma
she found this wasn’t some part of Inferno but a natural outgrowth of her
emotional development. She’d been bottling up how she felt for over a decade so
now she never developed a healthy way to vent her feelings. What made this
dangerous was her powers were affected by her emotional state. While her
training with Emma went well, seeing her with Scott made Alora uneasy and she
eventually left the mansion to return to her teammates. Surprised by Xerox’s
proposal she sent sparks flying high into the air as she shorted out every
electrical device within 3 blocks around her. She was surprised again later
when her father appeared to walk her down the aisle and gave her away despite
her sister’s hostility towards him.
The
Civil War that soon followed made her seriously rethink being a superhero as
she was deeply anti-registration. Her growing dedication to mutant rights kept
her in country with her husband despite an offer from X-patriots to join their
old team members in
With
the Hulk’s return to Earth Alora found herself facing down someone who was
almost exactly like her. Abused, angry, and possessing a nearly unlimited
capacity for rage and destruction. After being unable to stop him with the team
she went into his mind to find the personalities were working as one. Firing an
Inferno burst off she only burned most of his skin off. Undeterred he broke her
second barrier and knocked her out with a single hand clap. After being
recovered by Medic and the rest of the X-Patriots she found out she was
pregnant. She’s keeping this a secret from Xerox until she can start out what
to do as she again re-examines if she wants to be a superhero or not.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
Cinder
is at least an Alpha level mutant. Alora has vast psionic potential still to be
explored with numerous powers already.
Telepathy: She can manipulate the minds of others and even
higher order animals. Alora can read thoughts and project her own for up to a
range of 200 miles. With a great deal of strain she can extend it further.
Telekinesis: telekinetic abilities enable her to levitate herself
or other objects, propel or manipulate them however she wishes, stimulate
individual molecules to create heat, and generate concussive force or
protective shields.
Pyrokinesis: Alora is able to generate flames around her at will
and control fire and heat by increasing the molecular vibrations in an object.
She can increase any flames intensity and size even those she has not created
but only in her line of sight.
Thermokinesis: Cinder has the ability to mentally control the
ambient heat energy within her immediate environment. By increasing or
decreasing the molecular vibration, she can reduce objects' temperatures (if
they are in a normal range for existing on Earth's surface) to about 30 F,
raise them to several thousand degrees, or extinguish open flames. Her radius
of influence is about 80 feet.
Immunity to Fire & Heat: Cinder is unaffected by heat and flames, including
her own, even when part of her is aflame and the rest is not. Her flesh cannot
be scalded or burned by any heat source whose level is below that of her
maximum output. She can feel some discomfort at higher temperatures if she
remains for a prolonged period, similar to having heat exhaustion (Nausea,
headache). The exact time it takes to reach this point largely depends on the
temperature and current physical state she’s in.
Abilities
Alora
is a highly skilled pilot and often handles the X-Cruiser while on missions.
She’s an adept fighter in the astral plane and has maintained a psychic link to
Joseph Salinas for years.
Strength Level
Alora
possesses the strength of a woman her age, height, and build who engages in
regular moderate exercise.
Weaknesses
Her
flames depend on oxygen to burn so any object that removes it, Fire-fighting
foam, sand, water, etc, can douse them. She can evaporate up to 5 gals into
steam while aflame but any more and her flame will die out until she can
evaporate the rest. Her emotional state affects her power so she has to watch
them closely or risk an incident.
Paraphernalia
Equipment: Cinders uniform is made of unstable molecules to
handle the large amounts of heat she can generate.
Transportation: X-Cruiser
Weapons: None Known
